 Workshop Abstract:

The recent adoption of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) for airborne mapping applications promises to greatly reduce the cost and complexity of collecting geospatial data for a broad range of applications. While the simplest of systems are comprised of a camera and powerful photogrammetric software, new generations of UAV platforms are being equipped with highly sophisticated mapping payloads comprised of LIDAR, hyperspectral and medium format cameras, with data quality that rivals (and even exceeds) that which can be collected from manned platforms.  Accurate and efficient georeferencing of the UAV sensor payloads is a critical component in enabling these platforms to be used for professional mapping applications.

This workshop will focus on the underlying concepts of georeferencing of UAV data using different methods.  Practical examples from real world UAV projects will then be used to illustrate the concepts. This workshop is intended for the ASPRS mapping professionals from either technical or business background. The topics will be covered in this workshop:
